4-H does that ?

We hear that alot. When most people think of 4-H, they think of cows, hogs, and corn. And while agriculture plays an important part in 4-H, it is so much more than that. In a 4-H club, activities can range from growing blueberries and raising rabbits to studying electricity, computers, and digital photography. 4-H also has a vibrant shooting sports program!

In every activity a 4-H club offers, it is about fun! But more than that, it is about learning life skills that can be used throughout a person's life. The activities are just a way to convey those skills to the kids. But don't tell them that they'll learn anything, they're just having fun!

Here at the Green Swamp 4-H Club, we offer many activities. Our main activities are dog training, archery, and horse training. We also go camping, canoeing, hiking, study wildlife (like butterflies!) Our kids also learn digital photography, public speaking, and web design. The site you are reading is being used as a tool to teach web design and how the internet works as it is being created. The kids also participate in shotgun trap and skeet shooting, as well as small bore rifle (those activities take place at a different location) through the 4-H Shooting Sports Program. We are looking to bring an Air Rifle range to our location soon!

Youth do not need to buy equipment to participate in any of the 4-H Shooting Sports activities. Parents and youth who wish to purchase equipment should do so after consulting with the club instructors, so as to maximize safety, cost savings, and the chances of success for the youth. Annual 4-H enrollment and the $1.00 insurance policy are mandatory; sometimes, in order to cover club expenses for consumable items (ammo, targets, etc.) an small fee is charged. Ask the club leader for details. If finances are a hardship, arrangements can be made.

Parents and/or adult guardians are required to attend and are encouraged to enroll as a volunteer. These activities are a perfect opportunity to spend quality time interacting with your child and other youths. Club duties will be shared by all participants, including the youth, so as to not put too much stress on any one individual. If you have particular interests or talents that can be of benefit to your club, just mention it to your instructor!
